Louisiana man allegedly killed four family members, but the 6-year-old son didn’t let a stab wound stop him from getting help

Kaegan Jude Solet is currently in custody facing four counts of first-degree murder and one count of attempted first-degree murder following a violent incident in Houma, Louisiana. The 47-year-old suspect was released from a hospital and immediately taken into custody by the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office. He is now being held without bond at the Terrebonne Parish Criminal Justice Complex.

As reported by the NY Post, events reportedly unfolded at a home on the 200 block of Ashland Drive, located about 63 miles outside of New Orleans. According to relative Brandon Thiel, the victims included Verna Mae Verdin, her children Letha Verret and Paul Verret, and Paul’s partner Krissy Lynn Parfait. Thiel noted that the suspect was known to the family, as he had reportedly fathered one of their children, WVUE reports.

A 6-year-old boy, who was staying at the home with his mother and grandmother, survived the attack despite sustaining multiple stab wounds. The child reportedly managed to flee the scene and seek help from neighbors while injured.

The boy was found near the property

Thiel described the boy’s actions by saying, “He knew he was injured and he was just worried about making sure someone knew his family was in trouble.” Police discovered the young boy near the property before finding the four adult victims, who were pronounced dead at the scene.

The child was airlifted to a hospital in critical condition, though his father later provided an update stating, “Please pray for my little man as he recovers he’s so so strong and such a fighter. Current status (he’s stable) thank everybody for reaching out.”

Officials have not yet determined the exact time the stabbing spree began. They are currently requesting that residents share any home security footage to assist in the ongoing investigation. Terrebonne police eventually tracked down Solet and reportedly arrested him following a manhunt that lasted several hours. He was transported to a hospital for medical treatment before his eventual discharge and booking.

The family members left behind are now dealing with the aftermath of this event. Letha Verret leaves behind seven children, and relatives have organized a fundraiser to help with the hardship caused by the sudden loss.

CJ, Letha’s son, shared his grief online regarding the loss of his family members and Krissy Lynn Parfait, writing, “Krissy and Paulie. Like they just seemed like they belonged together I will miss both of yall.” He added, “No matter what Krissy was still family, she sat with us for thanksgiving, Christmas, whatever the case was she sat at the table with us.. Krissy I promise we won’t forget about you neither.”
