Animal Crossing New Horizons: How to unlock Brewster and The Roost Coffee Shop

Recommended Videos

Animal Crossing’s iconic coffee shop, the Roost, along with its lovable pigeon barista, Brewster has finally returned in Animal Crossing: New Horizons‘ 2.0 update. Brewster will open up his coffee shop inside your museum, which will attract notable characters to visit for a cup of joe. In this guide, we’ll detail exactly how to find Brewster and bring the Roost coffee shop to your island in Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

How to find Brewster in Animal Crossing: New Horizons

Before you can open the Roost on your own island in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, you’ll have to find Brewster first. Go into your museum and talk to Blathers, who should have a thought bubble above his head. It’s important that you do this before anything else, as the next step can only be done once per day. Blathers mentions that he wants to open a café, but can’t find his old colleague, Brewster. He talks about Brewster’s love of Gyroids, which can be found on Kapp’n’s tours and is exactly where that elusive pigeon is hiding.

If Blathers is not providing any dialogue about Brewster, players on Reddit have discovered that you need to have donated to the museum 60 times, and have at least one fish, bug, fossil and sea creature. Sea creatures are donations only found via diving. You may also need to sync your in-game time to the internet if you’ve been time travelling. Finally, people are also reporting that your island needs to be three-stars or above to unlock, which can be checked by talking to Isabelle about “Island eval”.

Once you’ve received Brewster’s photo from Blathers, head to the dock on your island, where Kapp’n is now permanently situated. Have him take you on a tour, which costs a hefty 1,000 Nook Miles and can only be done once a day, so make sure you have talked to Blathers beforehand. When you arrive, look around the island for Brewster and talk to him. Tell him that Blathers sent you and, despite the dialogue that ensues, your mission is complete. Return to your Island and talk to Blathers.

Blathers will be ecstatic that you found Brewster and claim that he will “make his way here forthwith.” Which translates to three days. You won’t notice any changes straight away, but the museum will be closed for renovations the next day. On the third day, the Roost will finally open in the top left of your museum! Time travelling does work if you’d like to experience the coffee shop sooner.

The Roost offers fresh cups of coffee and the chance to meet notable characters, including characters that haven’t been seen since Animal Crossing: New Leaf, such as Resetti and Pelly.
