School is important. You should probably be paying attention to what your teacher is saying. But say, for instance, you’re coasting towards the end of the year with good grades and you want to play a little Fortnite: Battle Royale in school while on a break — this is the guide for you as we’ll be going over some different ways to play Fortnite at school.
Using a VPN
If you use your own computer at school you can download the game on to your laptop and play. However, you may still be at the mercy of the school’s Wi-Fi and the different sites that it blocks. Here’s where using a VPN will help you in bypassing these blocks. Hotspot Shield is one such program that works for bypassing Wi-Fi blocks, but there are numerous programs that can shield your computer by using a VPN to access the Epic Games Launcher and playing Fortnite.
Of course, you may still run into problems if you aren’t using your own computer. You’ll need admin access to download the Fortnite game client and there are numerous ways to get admin access to a computer but we’re not going to go over those here. There are other ways to play Fortnite at school, especially if you’ve got a gaming PC at home.
Chromebook & Remote Desktop App
If you’re using a Chromebook or similar laptop, you can connect remotely to your desktop at home by using the Remote Desktop Connection App.
You’ll need few things to make this method work. First you’ll need the Chrome Remote Desktop App installed on your home PC capable of running Fortnite and your Chromebook. Once you’ve downloaded the Remote Desktop App you can install it on your home computer. You’ll need to set-up remote access on your PC by choosing a name and a unique pin number. After you have your PC remote desktop configured you can head to your school computer and go to https://remotedesktop.google.com. Navigate to “Remote Access” on your school computer and then login with your home account that you’ve created on your PC. You’ll need to enter your pin to authenticate the remote desktop connection. After a brief connection process you’ll have access to everything on your home PC.
Using the remote access features of the Chrome Remote Desktop App you can log in to your home computer and play Fortnite remotely from your Chromebook. From there you can go into the Epic Games Launcher and launch Fortnite from your Chromebook. This method requires some streaming so a lot of things can come into play here in terms of the connection quality of the game. The better your internet the better your connection will be.
Fortnite Mobile is available for iPhone and Android devices and it’s actually not a bad alternative to play Fortnite on the go. Unfortunately, when you’re at school you still might be at the mercy of school Wi-Fi. Playing mobile games on school WiFi involves using another VPN. This time though, you’ll need to download a VPN app to your phone or tablet. Connectivity will depend on whether your school blocks different types of connections. Trying a handful of the free VPN apps on the App Store or Google Play should get you up and running. On iPhone you could try VPN Master or X-VPN.
